As the afternoon ends families start to abandon the shores of Sukhna Lake.   #travel #india #punjab #chandigarh #street joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00…

Not sure that sign’s meant for the swan shaped boats on the lake…#travel #india #punjab #chandigarh #street joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00…

A day off is a day off everywhere: people go out and gather in their favorite spots, and in Chandigarh one of those spots is Sukhna Lake.#travel #india #punjab #chandigarh #streethttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00005LUl66MHeis

Farricocos, the masked penitents of Ecce Homo procession, carrying the fogaréus: the metal burning baskets that must always be lit. I’m already driving to this year’s Semana Santa location, it won’t be Braga as in this photo, but Idanha-a-Nova, where the Easter traditions of Beira Baixa have always stayed alive. #portugal #braga #Easter #holyweek #semanasanta joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00…

The Burial of the Lord three years ago, literally a funeral procession on streets of Braga during Good Friday.#portugal #braga #Easter #holyweek #semanasantahttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000p.X0fKyb4s4

The last rickshaw. It wasn’t that late but Sunday is a slow day at Chandni Chowk, most stores were already closed, if even opened at all. This man most probably was waiting for the last customer of the day.#delhi #india #chandnichowk #streethttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00009ahHAl3qZNM

In most places you only need to handle with pigeons as your annoying city animal. In India there’s also monkeys, that are as annoying as pigeons. But bigger… And move around in packs… And smarter…  #india #delhi #chandnichowk #streethttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000.6D6kZVO0DQ

Another diver getting ready for his big moment. Any ledge or balcony is good enough for divers to jump, not sure how deep the baoli is…

Not all people even bother to go inside the baoli to collect some blessed water, maybe because to the nuisance of having to go past the gate and gatekeeper, some just ask someone who’s inside to get it, like the kids diving from the ledges.#Nizamuddin #Delhi #Sufi  #islam #Indiahttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000oXFSBnAP_uo

The temple complex of Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is filled with corridors and hallways, and the reason why is to go around this stepwell. There’s only one entrance, a locked gate, and when I was by it the gatekeeper looked at me and with his head pointed inside it.#Nizamuddin #Delhi #islam #indiahttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000KYRb29FZnzU

Sometimes it can get a bit crowded in there, and when you’re the only foreigner you eventually end up getting noticed. Not that I wanted to be entirely unnoticed.#Nizamuddin #Delhi #islam #india #street joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00…

Being in India in the monsoon season means you must be ready for the occasional downpour. When that happens you either accept you’ll get soaking wet or run to take cover in the first place you find. Here the arches of Hazrat Nisamudin’s mausoleum provided that cover, to me and everyone else there.#Nizamuddin #Delhi #islam #india #street #monsoonhttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000sh0N1xSZio4

People at mausoleum of Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi, some do bring offerings of flowers while others, like me but not only me, just wander the small and crowded temple complex.

In some Sikh temples saying that water is a central element is to be taken literally, as they’re built around it.#travel #india #delhi #sikhismhttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000s.NSZ6nX4Dg

A sikh always wears five things, some under the turban, some under the pants (for real). My favorite is the kirpan, a small cerimonial dagger that symbolizes a lot of what Sikhism is: the warrior heritage but also the sense of duty. The kirpan can’t be used to hurt others, only in self-defense or to protect those in danger.#travel #india #delhi #sikhism joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I00…

Surprisingly Hinduism took a small part in the religions that were on my path in India on my last trip. One of the culprits is Sikhism, like here at Delhi’s main temple, but mostly later on in the holy city of Amritsar.#travel #sikhism #people #delhi #indiahttps://joaoalmeida.photoshelter.com/image/I0000YA2zYExywUc
